Quality Materials
& Construction

We take pride in every home we build and strive to make every Aho homebuyer a satisfied homeowner. Our points of pride include our:

  • Skilled employees and subcontractors. Every day, the Aho Construction team’s No. 1 goal is to respond to our customers. Some members of our collaborative group have been building together for 30 years.
  • Original plans. Our flexible plans are designed in-house.
  • Foundations. We ensure proper drainage by conducting careful grading at the site and, where needed, installing a drain at the lowest point of the crawl space.*
  • Lumber. Our wood is kiln-dried to resist warping.
  • Framing.Our 8-foot walls are truly 8 feet tall.+
  • Floors. Aho Construction was among the first residential builders to install engineered I-joist floors. Our lower-level floors are especially stable, because we install our joists 30% closer together than engineering requires.
  • Plywood subfloors. We use plywood in our subfloors because it reduces squeaks and produces a more stable surface. Also, it is a versatile platform for future remodelers who want to replace original flooring with tile or hardwood.
  • Cabinets. We install only custom-made cabinets, including the boxes, and offer a variety of style and woods.
  • Appliances. We offer both electric and gas stoves, depending on service availability, and microhoods are standard.
  • Dryer vents. In most models, our vents are recessed. This enables quick connection and keeps the hose pinch-free for more efficient airflow and safe operation.
  • Siding. We use attractive, long-lasting wood-grain fiber cement siding+ or wood-based LP SmartSide,´depending on climate.
  • Roofing. We use 30-year shingles.
  • Wiring. Our homes are pre-wired for garage door openers and ceiling fan(s).

Energy
Efficiency

Aho homes are ENERGY STAR qualified, meeting energy efficiency guidelines established by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. This means Aho homes are 15-30% more energy efficient than homes built to the 2004 International Residential Code.

You’ll find ENERGY STAR working for you in our homes’:

  • Insulation. Well-insulated walls, ceilings and floors can save you up to 20% on heating and cooling while reducing the presence of humidity, dust, pollen, pests and noise. Aho’s insulation is rated R-21 in walls, R-38 in ceilings and R-30 in floors.
  • Furnace. We install furnaces that are ENERGY STAR qualified, 90-95% efficient and include a 4-inch-thick air filter.+
  • Ductwork. In a typical house 20% of heated and cooled air leaks out of the duct system, but tight, well-insulated ducts increase your home’s energy efficiency while improving air quality. The integrity of our ductwork is tested and third-party verified.
  • Windows. We install ENERGY STAR-qualified windows that feature low-E (emitance) coatings that help keep your home warmer in winter and cooler in summer. They also reduce condensation and minimize fabric fading.
  • Appliances. We install ENERGY STAR appliances that help keep your utility bills low and often out-perform standard appliances. A comprehensive appliance package—like ours—can save you up to $80 a year.
  • Water heater. We install high-efficiency water heaters, which are 10-20% more efficient than those with minimum standards and can save you up to $500 over 8-10 years.+ €
  • Lighting. Our homes include at least 50 percent ENERGY STAR-qualified bulbs.
  • Overall quality. ENERGY STAR requires our homes to be inspected and tested by an independent Home Energy Rater.

Environmental
Sustainability

Aho Construction has a streamlined production process that saves time (your home can be complete within 60-90 days of lumber drop), money and natural resources. We pay careful attention to our:

  • Foundation. Unlike many builders, we install most of our foundations using a single-pour process. With our reusable engineered forms we are able to save time and resources.
  • Lumber recycling. We recycle our unused lumber and scraps.
  • Insulation. We use sustainably produced, phenol- and formaldehyde-free EcoBatt Insulation, which is made from sand and post-consumer recycled glass. The insulation we blow into attics is formaldehyde-free.
  • Paint. We use only low-VOC paint, meaning it does not release significant pollutants (volatile organic compounds) and is nearly odor-free.
  • Carpet. Our carpets are recyclable and some contain post-consumer recycled fibers.
  • Hardwood floors. Our Shaw Epic hardwood flooringis a premium hardwood veneer over a core of post-industrial recycled wood fiber and hardwood backing, all manufactured in the United States. It uses 50% less harvested wood than comparable engineered wood flooring, and it comes from managed forests.+

The Aho
Warranty

Perhaps the most important Aho Advantage of all is our one-year warranty that covers everything in your new home, in addition to the manufacturers’ warranties on individual products.

Our philosophy is that we do things right the first time around, and we have teamed up with subcontractors who feel the same way. But should a problem arise with your Aho home, just call. We will send someone to take care of it as quickly as possible—just as we have been doing for the past three decades for more than 9,000 homebuyers.

Aho Construction also gives new homeowners the added assurance of a 2-10 Home Buyers Warranty. You will have the satisfaction of knowing that your builder's warranty obligations are clearly defined in writing and backed by a strong warranty insurer.  Aho Construction will enroll your new home in the warranty program at the date of closing.
